Why do we need Antioxidants?

An antioxidant is an all-natural substance that reduces the damage of free radicals that break down cells within the body. When the body breaks down it will become weak, sick or diseased.

Examples of antioxidants: are Vitamin C, and Vitamin E, beta-carotene, lutein, lycopene and selenium.

Here are some fruits and vegetables high in antioxidants: blueberries, blackberries, strawberries, bilberries, açaí, pomegranate, bananas, mangos, avocado, seaweed, kale, spinach, carrots, Swiss chard, mushrooms, sweet potatoes, pumpkins, squash, peppers, chocolate, broccoli, black beans and red beans.

There are thousands of healthy all-natural foods high in antioxidants out there. Click here for a great article from the National Institutes of Health on the topic.
